Three proposed mobile interface screens for this case study

From assessment to fully charged.

An EV installation is a sequence of decisions and handoffs. Spark Plug brings assessment, quotes, installation milestones, and maintenance into a connected product experience.

I am defining one shared project model with three coordinated surfaces: the customer portal, Fleet Operations, and Field Service. The customer experience leads the work, with the operational surfaces planned around the same project information.

The challenge

Customers, fleet operators, and service crews need different views of the same project. When documents, schedules, quotes, and service updates live in separate systems, customers lose visibility and teams spend time translating status.

How might one project stay understandable across every handoff?

Design decisions

Make progress legible

A consistent sequence—assess, design, permit, install, commission, maintain—gives customers a useful picture of where the project stands.

Keep the next action obvious

Assessment, photo upload, quote review, and service requests are presented as customer tasks. Internal operational detail belongs with the teams responsible for it.

Connect the system without flattening it

Residential, commercial, fleet, and public-charging needs share information while retaining workflows suited to each user.

The experience

  1. Assess — Capture site information and supporting photos.
  2. Plan & install — Review the quote and follow installation milestones.
  3. Maintain — Request service and retain project history.

Current stage

Customer experience in progress

The customer journey covers 13 screens, including onboarding, dashboard, assessment, photo upload, quotes, maintenance, charger discovery, and charging-session completion. The customer application and foundational system are in progress; Fleet Operations and Field Service are planned extensions.

Next validation

  • Do customers understand each project stage and the next action?
  • Can they complete the assessment and evaluate a quote confidently?
  • Which operational details build confidence, and which create overload?
Shared information does not require identical interfaces. A connected product can support each person’s responsibilities while keeping everyone oriented around the same project.
